Track the falling threshold
Overtime keeps the normal target at 80% of non-fallout land through 30:00. You must hold a usable-land share strictly greater than the live threshold, and the bar has not moved yet at exactly 30:00.
After 30:00, the threshold falls by one percentage point every 30 seconds, which is two percentage points per minute.
If you lead, stop overextending and hold a usable-land share above the live threshold. If you trail, take cheap tiles before the next drop.
As of v0.33.13 on 3 September 2026, public FFA defaults Overtime on; team and Special queues do not inherit that default, and private lobbies can disable it. The mechanic landed in v0.33.11 on 24 August 2026, with maintenance notes continuing through v0.33.14, so check the lobby card before relying on the schedule.
Convert the next tick into a win
- What should a leader do before the next threshold drop?
- If your usable-land share is already above the live line, stop overextending and defend it. Protect the neck that is losing ground with Defense Posts and keep a troop reserve near 42% of capacity so a neighbor cannot erase 3% in one attack.
- What should a trailing player take before the next tick?
- Take the cheapest legal land you can secure before the next drop, such as empty plains, a leftover Bot, a doomed neighbor, or a coast you can hold. Avoid a Port that cannot pay back before that drop; if troop capacity is the bottleneck, use a City.
- How do I confirm whether this match uses Overtime?
- Check the lobby card. Public FFA defaults Overtime on under the stated version, but team and Special queues do not inherit that setting, and private lobbies can turn it off.
